Unique in the market, Bambu Stage presents great stories and insights about Cambodia’s history and culture.
Under the tropical stars see informative, theatrical talks about the great temples of Angkor, the history of Cambodia through photography and the flickering shadows of puppet theatre. And a great banquet included!
Bambu Stage has two big green growing shoots. The first is to change perceptions about the history, cultures and issues that affect Cambodia. When you’re more informed you become a better traveller.
Having worked in museums and theatre all our lives we know people really enjoy an authentic experience- something that comes from the heart of a culture. Something that lets those shoot grow with abundance.
Relax in a director's chair and enjoy a cool drink at our tropical garden theatre. It seats just 40 people. Watch a fun new take on a great tradition– the Cambodian Bambu Puppets. The twelve puppeteers have been working hard to revive an old tradition and make it relevant for the 21st century, mixing old techniques with new technology. Wild and just a little bit crazy, they present a one hour show- from traditional stories to moody experimental works and physical theatre where the puppets leap from the screen.
They introduce each character and puppeteer so the audience can identify the action, and they speak in both English and Khmer. This is a great opportunity to support gifted dancers as they learn new skills and tell their stories from the heart of Cambodia. You can interact with the puppets after the show and book a private workshop any day at 10am or 2pm. If you paid for the post-show dinner its a beautiful affair served Asian style with all the other guests. Vegan options.
