Difficulty: slight to moderate difficulty
We assemble at 8:00am at the office and depart at 8:30am towards Veonsai District. We take a ferry to cross the Sesan River and then we carry on driving for another hour.During this journey, you will travel through secondary forest and learn of the indigenous people’s lifestylethat live deep in this remote area close to Virachey NP.
We will reach the VNP border where we take a break for lunch with a Kavet indigenous family who live on the outskirts of the village there in a beautiful spot beside a clear river surrounded by hills and forest.
1st trek destination: Trek to the waterfall (approx. 2.5hrs)
After lunch, we start trekking into the VNP, at first an easy trek of around 20minutes to the river. The main trek begins at the river (in the rainy season the river becomes deeper and the currentstronger). We will put our clothes and things in waterproof carry bags and then swim across this river. After that, you will witness the incredible primary forest there. Soon we will start hiking in dense jungle and the English speaking guide will show you how to find and use some the natural resources. If you are lucky you will spot some native wildlife along the way.
Once we arrive at the waterfall, we will take a break and have a snack and a swim in the river.
2nd destination: Trek to the Boat (approx. 1hr)
We go on a trek through the primary forest &bamboo forest to the top of the Olalai River* where our community boat will be waiting. The boat takes us downstream through beautiful forest; again you have the chance to spot native birds, primates and reptiles along the river.
We will be back to the Kavet indigenous family at approximately 5pm and we will leave our luggage with them. Then we will climb a high hill to see the spectacular view and enjoy the sunset over the VNP.
The *O’lalai is a beautiful meandering river, which begins from a spring deep in the VNP near the Loa border. Its water is beautiful and clear and flows gently as it makes its waydown through the forest.
After the first day’s trekking, rafting is a more relaxing way to travel. You will really enjoy this experience with extra bonus fun swimming and watching native birds and other animals along the way.
When we arrive at the main village of the Kavet indigenous people, we will have lunch with the guide’s family.
The English speaking guide will talk to you about his people’s customs, culture and traditions.
After that, we will bring you back to Banlung, at around 4pm.
